4 kickers the Carolina Panthers should consider in 2022 free agency
Carolina Panthers could sign Eddy Pineiro
This final option played only played in five games last season, in which he showed much promise. Eddy Pineiro is coming off a solid sophomore season with the New York Jets and might have done enough to earn an extension with the franchise to prevent him from hitting free agency.
Pineiro started his career as an undrafted rookie free agent with the Chicago Bears. He earned a spot after the Jets’ starting kicker went down with an injury last season.
In his short amount of playing time, Pineiro did not miss a field goal attempt (8/8). He also finished last season by kicking 90 percent on extra-point attempts.
Finishing the way Pineiro did last season should be a huge confidence boost heading into next year. This is a player that proved he wants a shot in the league and can be relied upon to deliver in critical moments.
It’s unclear if the Jets will look to re-sign him, but Pineiro could be a solid option to compete for a starting job. Not to mention the Carolina Panthers would be able to get him for a decent price, which will allow for more salary-cap space for free agency.
The Panthers have a lot to think about moving forward. With free agency fast approaching, we could soon see who Carolina chooses to be their kicker – although it would be a huge shock if Zane Gonzalez wasn’t brought back.
