6 reasons for and against the Panthers trading for Jordan Love
By Jason Huber
Carolina Panthers could get a better QB than any in the 2022 draft class
Here’s the deal. Unless the Carolina Panthers draft one or make a splashy trade for someone like Deshaun Watson, their next quarterback probably won’t be very good or at least average. Trading for a guy like Jimmy Garroppolo would just be another gap option and they don’t need that.
It’s possible Malik Willis or Kenny Pickett falls to Carolina at pick No. 6. But teams always reach for quarterbacks in the draft, meaning if one front office realizes that the Panthers want one of them, they’ll be sure to try and leapfrog them.
The Panthers don’t have as much capital to make a draft trade right now. To get Jordan Love, it’s hard to imagine anyone giving up more than a second or third-round pick. The unknown is just too much and no team will risk their future.
If Carolina can get Love at a cheap price, that’s much more beneficial than sacrificing key assets in the draft or a Watson trade. Even though the risk is obviously higher for a player that has not had much experience in a competitive setting.
Even the Sam Darnold trade was giving up way too much. But this also depends on the market for Love given how things have recently transpired with big-name quarterbacks such as Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson.
