3 outgoing trades that make perfect sense for the Panthers in 2022
Carolina Panthers send Christian McCaffrey to the Bills
The Carolina Panthers never wanted to be put into a position where they have to trade their best player, which Christian McCaffrey clearly is. But when you get such little production of 10 games in two years after extending the running back with a massive contract, the organization has to consider ways to recoup that value – even if it means dealing the former first-round pick out of Stanford.
The Buffalo Bills have been in need of a top-tier running back ever since Marshawn Lynch left, and the temptations of McCaffrey next to all-world quarterback Josh Allen might be too much to pass up.
Daryl Williams, a former Panther himself, is rumored to considering a pay cut to stay on the team, so it would make sense to come home to Carolina and help fix up their atrocious offensive line. Buffalo also has enough depth across their protection to make this move possible.
Carolina has already put it out there that they would need a first-round pick and a player to move on from their franchise running back. This trade fits both of those needs, as well as benefitting both teams immensely.
Nabbing a first-rounder, a starter at right guard, and much-needed cap relief would be the ideal outcome if Carolina does indeed part ways with their franchise playmaker. This allows them to make a play for one of the big named quarterbacks or add to the roster from one of the deeper draft classes in a while.
