Carolina Panthers could target Zach Ertz

At 31 years old, Zach Ertz may not be the long-term answer. But he is certainly a viable solution next season and especially considering what’s at stake for the Carolina Panthers in Year 3 of Matt Rhule’s reign.

After eight years with the Eagles that soured near the end, Ertz found a career resurgence during his time with the Arizona Cardinals with an up-tempo offense finishing with the sixth-most yards among tight ends.

Ertz is closing in on the 100 games mark for his career. He has amassed 635 receptions for 6,841 receiving yards and 41 touchdowns.

Not only this, but someone with Ertz’s experience would be a welcomed addition to the tight end room that is still relatively young and inexperienced outside of Ian Thomas. Ertz is well-liked and respected around the league – something this group is also lacking to a certain extent.

Ertz still has a few solid years left to play at a high level and add value to the team. The two-time All-Pro could slot in nicely with Thomas to give the Panthers options for passing and running plays.

Whether the Panthers would be able to free up enough in the way of funds to land Ertz with so many other needs is highly debatable.
