Baker Mayfield is reportedly not a target for the Carolina Panthers, which is probably the right call to make under the circumstances.

This offseason has been a quarterback frenzy with many signal-callers moving to different teams via free agency or trades. When Deshaun Watson made his decision to be traded to the Cleveland Browns last week, teams put on stand-still had more clarity about which direction to move next and the Carolina Panthers were one of those holding out hope that the former Clemson star would choose them over others before missing out.

Even though the Panthers still have Sam Darnold on their roster for another year unless they cut or trade him, and are reportedly talking to Cam Newton about another potential return, the answer for the quarterback position is simply not on the team right now.

With Watson’s move to the Browns, that put 2018 No. 1 overall pick and former Heisman Trophy winner, Baker Mayfield, on the chopping block. He even reportedly demanded a trade just a day before his fate was officially sealed.

Carolina is now one of just a few teams who still don’t have a solidified starting quarterback a. Because of that, Mayfield being traded to the Panthers was a potential destination.

Yet, multiple reports now say Carolina is not interested in making a move for Mayfield and he is also not interested in being traded there.

The career of Mayfield has been a rollercoaster so far. The Oklahoma product’s potential is visible but he’s been injury-prone and has shown a lot of inconsistency – probably why the market for the player is very quiet right now.

With that said, here are three reasons why the Panthers are making the right decision by removing Mayfield from their list of potential options.
