Ranking the 9 potential Carolina Panthers starting QB options in 2022

Carolina Panthers could re-sign Cam Newton
It was almost unbelievable to see Cam Newton back with the Carolina Panthers in 2021. The legendary quarterback came to the team’s rescue midway through the season and made an instant impression en route to a memorable victory at the Arizona Cardinals – which turned out to be the last time Matt Rhule enjoyed a winning feeling.
Newton was always going to find life difficult, especially with no time to develop chemistry and learn the playbook. The former NFL MVP and Heisman Trophy winner brought an element of hope and leadership within the locker room that wasn’t there before, but little changed in terms of results and the jury is still out as to whether or not he’ll return.
Carolina hasn’t closed the door on Newton returning. The player is keeping his options open and stated to ESPN’s Adam Schefter that he’s received multiple offers, so it’s all about the right fit with a chance to play for the Auburn product.
Judging by how unimpressed Newton was with the attitude of some, then the chances of him coming back for another year appear to be remote. However, allowing him a full offseason and competing with Sam Darnold could be all the player needs to win a starting job once again.
If it doesn’t pan out, then the Panthers can move on for good. But as general manager Scott Fitterer said recently, it has to be a situation that works for both parties.
