5 key former Panthers players still looking for new homes in 2022

Stephon Gilmore – Former Carolina Panthers CB
Keeping Stephon Gilmore around was always going to be difficult despite the All-Pro cornerback residing in the area. Nothing has been ruled out as yet by the Carolina Panthers, with general manager Scott Fitterer stating that discussions had taken place regarding an extension that hasn’t turned into anything official as yet.
Gilmore proved in his short time on the field last season that there is plenty left in the tank. His production and quiet influence within the locker room following a surprising trade from the New England Patriots was a tremendous asset for the Panthers, but there will be more than a few suitors in free agency and the veteran is right to explore every possible avenue.
The Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly interested in Gilmore. They won’t be alone, but the South Carolina product has to weigh everything up for what might be the last big contract of his professional career.
Carolina’s secondary has some nice young pieces led by Jaycee Horn. But there are also some concerns regarding the potential of CJ Henderson and whether Keith Taylor Jr. can build on a promising rookie campaign overall.
Having Gilmore back would be nice – he isn’t sitting on the market through a lack of options, one suspects. However, the Panthers are unlikely to break the bank and the player himself might want to be on a team with better Super Bowl aspirations.
