Panthers 7-round 2022 NFL mock draft: Dreams come true in Round 1
By Dean Jones
Carolina Panthers select Jayden Peevy
- Position: Defensive Tackle
- Height: 6-foot-5
- Weight: 308 pounds
- Arm Length: 35.5 inches
- 2021 PFF grade: 78.0
The Carolina Panthers took a defensive tackle with their final pick of the 2021 NFL Draft in Phil Hoskins, who did show some promise when chances came his way. Phil Snow will be without the services of DaQuan Jones after the veteran left for the Buffalo Bills in free agency, so adding to the team’s depth is something to consider despite the signing of Matt Ioannidis following his release from the Washington Commanders.
Carolina also has Daviyon Nixon and Bravvion Roy to factor into the equation. However, if someone with Jayden Peevy’s outstanding skill set is still available at this stage, then the Panthers could do far worse, that’s for sure.
Peevy has all the measurables needed to wreak havoc in opposing backfields. The interior lineman boasts outstanding lower body strength and violent hands that enable the prospect to have his way with almost anyone when he’s in the mood.
There is some tweaking to do regarding pass-rush refinement and Peevy wouldn’t be the most explosive member of this year’s defensive tackle class by any stretch. However, the Panthers could use him in a similar fashion to what they did with Hoskins last year and hope for similar results.
Peevy is a nice prospect with room to develop. This is all any team is looking for in the seventh round and the player might go much higher, in any case.
