Carolina Panthers could draft LB more than once
As expected, the Carolina Panthers did not bring back Jermaine Carter after an inconsistent campaign. They did strengthen their options in free agency with the additions of Damien Wilson and Cory Littleton, whose skill sets complement each other well and should provide better balance to the second level.
Frankie Luvu is back and Shaq Thompson was restructured rather than traded. But there are some depth concerns across the linebacker corps that can be solved during the 2022 NFL Draft.
The Panthers would not need anyone to come in and make an instant impact given the options at their disposal. However, one cannot account for injuries during the season and if these occur, Carolina needs better backup pieces to avoid losing significant momentum at any stage.
Again, this is a pretty rich crop of inside or outside linebackers emerging from the college ranks this year. Even though the Panthers don’t have a Day 2 pick right now, finding diamonds in the rough has been a specialty of Scott Fitterer’s over the years and it’s a trend that fans and the man himself will be hoping continues this time around.
Adding some talented young linebackers cannot hurt by any stretch. If they aren’t ready to start, then expect any new recruits to make a difference on special teams while developing specific areas of their game.
