Carolina Panthers could select Desmond Ridder (Cincinnati)

Desmond Ridder is a name that also began generating positive momentum at the best possible time. This came thanks to a memorable run from the Cincinnati Bearcats that eventually resulted in a college football playoff berth, but he’s continued this with an outstanding evaluation process that has many wondering whether the quarterback can push his way into the first round.

Ridder is an exceptional leader who commands respect. His decision-making is solid more often than not and his production is also enhanced by outstanding athleticism for a man his size.

One area where Ridder needs coaching is pocket awareness. He was often criticized for taking too many sacks in college, which obviously won’t fly at the next level and this can improve by processing information quickly and having the courage of his convictions.

The Carolina Panthers won’t contemplate selecting Ridder at No. 6 overall, one suspects. But if they ended up trading down for additional draft capital, then the signal-caller will come under the microscope in pursuit of finally solving the team’s woes under center.

Like many in this class, Ridder might not be ready to start right out of the gate. However, it’s unlikely that Sam Darnold will be traded, so the Panthers have a bridge quarterback in place until a rookie is ready to assume command in this eventuality.
