The story surrounding Malik Willis is inspiring. More importantly, his exceptional physical attributes now see him as a potential favorite to be the first quarterback taken in 2022.
There is nowhere that Willis cannot put the football. The former Liberty star has elite arm strength that is astonishing and can make plays on the run to a very high standard.
Willis also has a charismatic personality that’s hard not to love. Another reason why a plethora of teams such as the Carolina Panthers has taken such a keen interest in a prospect that comes into the league with the highest of ceilings.
It’s easy to get lost in Willis’ mystique. But anybody expecting miracles right away is probably kidding themselves.
His decision-making is often suspect and although Willis has the power to his throws, the accuracy wasn’t where it needed to be on film and is something that needs significant work in the pros. The signal-caller is also undersized, which could lead to some longevity concerns when big-time NFL hits start coming his way.
This move would represent the Panthers pushing all their chips into the middle and hoping for the best. One that would ultimately define the Matt Rhule and Scott Fitterer era for good or bad.
