3 potential draft weekend disasters for the Carolina Panthers in 2022

Carolina Panthers come out of the draft process without a QB
Sam Darnold remains the preferred starting quarterback option for the Carolina Panthers right now despite a dismal 2021 campaign under center. This is down to the franchise striking out on Deshaun Watson and Russell Wilson this offseason and with only P.J. Walker below the former USC star on the depth chart, getting in another signal-caller is absolutely imperative between now and Week 1.
One could make an argument for the Panthers selecting Malik Willis or Kenny Pickett at No. 6 overall. Even though it would be a reach, it could provide some long-term hope that things could get better at the most important position on the field.
Some intriguing prospects such as Desmond Ridder, Matt Corral, and Sam Howell might be available in Round 2 if the Panthers trade back, with the team also showing an interest in Bailey Zappe, who could make it down to Round 4 according to some analysts.
Matt Rhule needs help right now. Another season of medicority or perhaps worse would likely spell the end for the former Baylor man in Carolina.
That’s why selecting a quarterback who needs time to develop is risky. So don’t be surprised if the Panthers made an in-draft trade for someone like Jimmy Garoppolo, Baker Mayfield, or Gardner Minshew if the price is right.
One thing’s for sure, the Panthers have to secure a quarterback to compete with or replace Darnold either before, during, or shortly after the draft process. Anything else would be deemed a real failure.
