Considering the season Jerome Ford put together in 2021, it’s surprising to see the running back become something of an afterthought during the evaluation process. He was a key cog for the Cincinnati Bearcats as the small program secured a historic place in the college football playoffs and this could lead to one NFL team getting a real bargain where the prospect is concerned.
Ford comes with a fantastic combination of burst, top-end speed, and awareness. He also has the power to acquire yards between the tackles or just off the edge.
Ford excels in finding the right holes. This is something that comes thanks to patience and having the conviction of trusting his instincts almost every time he touches the football.
There are some slight concerns regarding Ford’s ability to become a factor in the passing game at the NFL level. He does locate the football well, but it takes a significant amount of effort and there doesn’t appear to be much natural growth in this key area of the game.
Acquiring Ford could be something for the Carolina Panthers to discuss if they feel the value is right. Keeping a close eye on the player wouldn’t be the worst idea in the world if he makes it into Day 3 as expected.
