Panthers 2022 draft scouting report: Don’t sleep on Jamaree Salyer
By Dean Jones
How would Jamaree Salyer fit on the Carolina Panthers?
- Starting left tackle, starting guard
Taking Jamaree Salyer at No. 6 overall is unlikely. The Carolina Panthers haven’t shown much interest in doing so considering their strong presence at quarterback pro days and the fact he hasn’t been in for a visit as yet.
However, if Carolina goes for a trade down depending on the level of interest then this could change. Much would depend on just where they perceive the player to be starting on the offensive line with the right tackle, right guard, and center positions all filled after an eye-catching free agency period to date.
Putting Salyer as a blindside protector comes with risk, especially against speedier edge rushers. It’s worth remembering that Carolina does have Brady Christensen, who could slot in at left tackle and allow the incoming college recruit to start at left guard.
It’s just an option. And if the Panthers go through with selecting an elite player like Charles Cross or Evan Neal at No. 6, then Salyer will land somewhere else.
Sleeping on Salyer would be a mistake. Players don’t produce as he did in the SEC by accident and one suspects that the second round might be his floor given the talent and the proven quality of performances on film.
Salyer is a problem solver in one position. But the Panthers have many irons in the fire and could opt to go a different route when it’s all said and done.
