Carolina Panthers could draft Trevor Penning
- Offensive Tackle | Northern Iowa
- Relative Athletic Score – 9.96
There are few more polarizing prospects than Trevor Penning entering the league this year. The former Northern Iowa standout dominated everyone he came up against at the college level, with the player generating national attention for an extremely aggressive approach to individual and team drills during the 2022 Senior Bowl.
This might have propelled Penning up draft boards. And judging by his testing at the NFL Scouting Combine, there is every chance he could make a real go of things with additional refinement.
Penning is a potential trade-down option for the Carolina Panthers if they decide to pick up additional capital rather than an elite blindside protector at No. 6. However, the left tackle does have some technical flaws and his attitude throughout the assessment process means defensive ends across the NFL will be looking to make an example of him right out of the gate.
Agility and quickness are no problem for Penning. It’s his hand placement and recovery ability that pose a problem and there could be holding calls aplenty coming the player’s way if developments are not made quickly.
That being said, one team in the first round will take a chance on Penning. If the Panthers drop down the pecking order, he could be in play.
