Carolina Panthers could select Tyler Smith (Tulsa)

Measurements:

  • Height: 6-foot-6 | Weight: 332 pounds

2021 Stats:

  • 142 pass protection snaps
  • 92.1 PFF Grade
  • Started 13 games at left tackle
  • 16 penalties

Another possible Day 2 pick, Tyler Smith is one of the younger players in the draft at just 21 years old. But the stud prospect has plenty of athleticism and strength.

Smith has experience at left tackle during his last two seasons at Tulsa and his 34-inch arms are something that should have teams wanting to get their hands on him.

The downfall is that due to his lesser experience playing, there are some technical mechanics that would need improvement wherever he is drafted. He also showed to be undisciplined a lot, racking up a lot of penalties – something else that can be attributed to limited time on the field compared to others.

Smith still has to learn how to sustain and finish what he starts, which can be due to his quickness. It’s possible that the Tulsa product’s skillset fits more for a guard position thanks to his run-blocking ability, but he should be able to play anywhere.

He is still raw, but all the ability is there.

Smith just needs a good landing space to help him learn.

The Carolina Panthers might not need another project after drafting Brady Christensen last year. But if it comes down to it and he’s one of the best on their board, they might take a chance.
