Matt Rhule – Carolina Panthers HC

The Carolina Panthers remain confident in Matt Rhule‘s ability to lead as head coach despite a second-consecutive five-win season in 2021. A large section of the team’s fanbase was calling for the former Baylor man to be removed after the team lost 12 of their final 14 games, but owner David Tepper refused to budge from his initial belief that this was the guy to take the organization back to prominence.

Rhule has been out of the limelight more often than not this offseason. This was probably wise in the grand scheme of things, but he will once again provide a leading voice to the draft plans and might even continue to get the final say on all decisions as per his contract.

There have been some slight misses, but the Panthers have done well over the previous two drafts under Rhule. If this same trend happens in 2022, then all hope might not be lost.

It’s hard to put into words just how much is on the line for Rhule next season. There is a growing belief that he is in a “lame duck situation” and being under such pressure could lead to more rash moves without the bigger picture in mind.

Rhule has a strong knowledge of the college game, which should help. But the margin for error is incredibly slim for a head coach that does appear to be on the hot seat.
