Carolina Panthers select Max Mitchell

  • Offensive Tackle | Louisiana-Lafayette

The Carolina Panthers drafted their franchise left tackle with their first-round pick. However, they still lack quality depth at the position that features Taylor Moton as their starter at right tackle.

Having good depth along the offensive line is crucial to a team’s success during the season. The Panthers have always seemed to lack this along their protection, which has led to some ugly games and performances for their offense.

By adding a developmental tackle in Max Mitchell, the Panthers can take the next step in adding more depth to an offensive line that had very little in 2020 and 2021.

Mitchell, in some cases, reminds me of Brady Christensen with longer arms. He offers great versatility and can play either left or right tackle seamlessly.

This would allow Christensen himself to develop his skill set more at left guard where he is expected to start should the Panthers draft a tackle in Round No. 1.

Mitchell is a great athlete with good lateral movement skills and balance and has shown to be a technician in his pass sets. He is also a very competitive player who plays very hard on every rep.

The former Rajan Cajun could add more functional strength to his frame and improve as a run blocker. However, Mitchell has the skill set to be a swing tackle who can evolve into a key rotational piece over time.
