Chris Westry – Carolina Panthers CB

The signing of Chris Westry this offseason was an intriguing one. He is a huge cornerback at 6-foot-4 that did flash some useful traits during his brief time on the field for the Baltimore Ravens in 2021 that obviously did not go unnoticed by those in positions of power within the Carolina Panthers.

Westry probably saw this as an opportunity for additional playing time with the statuses of Donte Jackson and Stephon Gilmore up in the air. As it turned out, Carolina got a deal done with one of the two, which makes his task that much more difficult within a unit that has some gifted young players all set for big leaps.

All this is out of Westry’s control. What the player needs to do is establish himself within the locker room, make the most out of every rep in practice, and catch the eye during whatever time he gets on the field in preseason games.

In truth, even that might not be enough.

But it’s the best chance Westry has of seeing his name on the 53-man roster.

Westry has all the physical traits Carolina seeks to acquire. But with the likes of Keith Taylor Jr., Jaycee Horn, and C.J. Henderson also available to the Panthers, he has his work cut out in no uncertain terms.
