Carolina Panthers facing another high-risk gamble
Once all these factors have been figured out in this scenario, the Carolina Panthers will be faced with the biggest question of all.
Is another veteran quarterback trade the best thing to do?
Some flawed decisions in this key area since Matt Rhule took charge have held the team back and cannot continue. But relying on either Sam Darnold or Matt Corral to take the Panthers forward is arguably a bigger gamble given the fifth-year pro’s inconsistency and the Ole Miss product’s inexperience in the NFL.
Jimmy Garoppolo has been productive and has been part of winning teams. This almost came with a second Super Bowl appearance in 2021 before the San Francisco 49ers were beaten by the Los Angeles Rams for the NFC Championship.
These credentials far exceed anything the Panthers currently have. Although his limitations are there for all to see.
Perhaps a wildcard like Baker Mayfield would be the better – and cheaper – option. Many fans are also clamoring for the Panthers to give Cam Newton one more shot with a full offseason under his belt.
It’s been another long, drawn-out saga. But with camp fast approaching, a conclusion needs to occur sooner rather than later.
