Carolina Panthers could lose Baker Mayfield to the Seahawks

Another team that might be on the lookout for another new quarterback is the Seattle Seahawks. The NFC West outfit opted to trade away Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos, leaving them with just Geno Smith and Drew Lock as their preferred options before training camp.

It’s unlikely that either will come close to the production and overall influence Wilson accomplished during a glittering spell with the Seahawks. Head coach Pete Carroll has been complementary of their production during workouts so far, but if Baker Mayfield hit free agency it might be a different story.

This would be some stern competition for the Carolina Panthers if they are also intent on Mayfield coming to the franchise. Seattle can offer him a starting job and one could make an argument for their roster being a little stronger right now, although that is debatable after legendary linebacker Bobby Wagner was also shown the door.

Mayfield was reportedly keen on a move to Seattle earlier this offseason. But trade talks haven’t really gone passed anything more than an inquiry so far.

One suspects the Panthers would need to pull off a last-ditch trade to land Mayfield. If there were other alternatives and a legitimate chance to start, this might be his preference given how Carolina has struggled to make any sort of impact since Matt Rhule took charge.
