5 Carolina Panthers players with most to prove in 2022 training camp

Baker Mayfield – Carolina Panthers QB
After the long saga surrounding Baker Mayfield‘s future reached a conclusion, the quarterback must prove beyond all doubt he still has enough in his arsenal to become a productive NFL quarterback. The Carolina Panthers didn’t give up much to land the former No. 1 overall selection, but that doesn’t mean their latest gamble under center is going to pay off, either.
Mayfield can be excused for some regression last season after playing with a torn labrum in his non-throwing shoulder. However, there are times when the Oklahoma product forces the issue and lacks touch on his throws that cannot be ignored.
His arm strength is among the league’s best despite what some might tell you. Mayfield’s competitive edge is also something that can inspire the Panthers to bigger and better things if everything clicks into place immediately.
Of course, Mayfield also faced questions about his character after reports surfaced about immaturity and childishness during his time with the Cleveland Browns. Yet more fuel for motivation in Carolina.
Having a point to prove is something that Mayfield’s always had, in all honesty. Although this is nothing new to the player, there is now a real sense of urgency to get his career back on track after being cast aside by his old employers.
