Which Carolina Panthers players are being overhyped ahead of the team’s training camp at Wofford College in Spartanburg?

The Carolina Panthers are reporting to Wofford College later today for their annual training camp. This is normally the most intense portion of the preparation period before the season and the stakes could not be much higher for a franchise with more doubts than most about their chances in 2022.

There is a growing sense of excitement following an offseason of encouraging additions. One of two established veterans left the Panthers – which complicates matters – but this is a young, hungry roster capable of surprising if everything comes together quickly.

Camp always provides some memorable highlights and increased hype that some cannot live up to when push comes to shove. A scenario that’s unlikely to change this time around.

With that being said, here are four Panthers players being overhyped ahead of the team’s 2022 camp.

Matt Ioannidis – Carolina Panthers DT

The Carolina Panthers replaced DaQuan Jones with Matt Ioannidis in free agency. This provides Derrick Brown with another veteran defensive tackle partner heading into a crucial Year 3 for the former first-round selection, but whether reuniting with his old college coaches can bring about better fortunes is another matter.

Ioannidis was a key contributor for the Washington Commanders and put up outstanding numbers once upon a time. But his production over the last two years indicates that the jury is still out.

Hopefully, the Temple product can use being released as a source of motivation. Ioannidis has the credentials, but he’ll need to impose himself immediately if the Panthers’ defense wants to thrive.
