What were some crucial observations to take from practice Day 2 of Carolina Panthers training camp ahead of the 2022 season?

Players and coaches are now in the midst of a vital few weeks in training camp ahead of the 2022 season. The first day of practice on Tuesday came with some intriguing storylines, with the Carolina Panthers coaching staff keen to experiment across the depth chart before prominent players come to the fore in the near future.

This is something the Panthers wanted after preaching the need for increased competition in camp. Although there were eyes aplenty on the quarterbacks, a number of other elements such as the offensive line and defensive formations are also on fans’ minds before Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns at Bank of America Stadium.

The heat in Spartanburg was as advertised. A shock to some, but Day 2 saw many stamp their own claims under the watchful eye of head coach Matt Rhule and other influential figures within the organization.

With that being said, here are five key observations from practice Day 2 of Carolina’s training camp at Wofford College.

Watch and learn day for Carolina Panthers QB Matt Corral

Despite an encouraging first day of practice, the Carolina Panthers adopted a watch and learn approach for rookie quarterback Matt Corral throughout the second session. Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold took the majority of reps during drills, leaving the Ole Miss product as a keen spectator while waiting for his own opportunity.

Corral was always going to be lower down the pecking order initially. His production has caught the eye but surpassing Mayfield and Darnold might be a challenge given how much work the veteran duo has seen with the first and second units so far.

It’s all part of the learning curve for Corral. But he throws a beautiful football and demonstrates high character – two traits that will stand him in tremendous stead moving forward.
