Do the Carolina Panthers have enough DL depth?

After losing Haason Reddick to the Philadelphia Eagles in free agency, those in attendance during the early stages of training camp confirmed what many suspected heading into Spartanburg.

The Carolina Panthers are short on the defensive front.

This is something the Panthers looked to rectify by bringing in veteran pass-rusher Carlos Dunlap for a visit. But despite remaining interested in the Pro Bowler, a quick visit to the Kansas City Chiefs scuppered Carolina’s chances.

While the Panthers’ secondary has made their presence felt, less has been made of the defensive line’s contribution throughout camp so far. That might change when things ramp up before Week 1, but those in power might want to explore alternative options to ensure momentum builds early in the campaign.

Brian Burns is the obvious stud and could attain double-digit sacks in 2022 providing others live up to their end of the bargain. Whether the likes of Yetur Gross-Matos, Marquis Haynes, and perhaps even rookie Amare Barno are enough to form a prolific rotation is another matter.

Carolina has enough cap space to pull off another signing or two. But much will depend on how the coaching staff sees things and what options are currently or will become available before the regular season.
