6 key observations from Panthers 2022 training camp practice Day 9

Sam Mills’ legacy celebrated
Although the primary focus during the morning’s scrimmage was performing at a high level, there was also a sense of celebration as the Carolina Panthers finally had one of their own enter the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
After a long wait, Sam Mills was finally enshrined in Canton this weekend. This was a big deal considering his connection to the organization and something those following in his footsteps rightfully celebrated.
The team’s coaching staff and players not participating all wore Keep Pounding t-shirts in recognition of Mills, who inspired the franchise’s mantra and has a legacy that will live through the ages.
Head coach Matt Rhule spoke about Mills’ influence, adding that J.J Jansen – who won the starting long-snapper job once again – spoke to the locker room about what Keep Pounding means to him during an emotional speech that galvanized the group.
"“It was an honor to wear Sam Mills’ shirt today. Wish the Mills family a ton of grace, peace, happiness and joy today as he goes into the Hall of Fame. JJ Jansen got up yesterday and talked about what Keep Pounding meant to him. It was emotional. It was powerful. Hope everyone celebrates today.”"
It was only right that such a monumental occasion was given the proper respect by the Panthers’ current regime despite their schedule. If they can show half the fight Mills did throughout a storied career and before his untimely death, they might just have a chance in 2022.
