4 Panthers players in danger of being cut after preseason Week 2

P.J. Walker – Carolina Panthers QB
If this was a final audition for P.J. Walker to prove his worth, the quarterback couldn’t rise to the occasion. It was a torrid evening overall for the former XFL MVP candidate, which might be the last time we see him in a Carolina Panthers uniform depending on the injury status of Matt Corral.
Walker just didn’t look comfortable at any stage despite getting the start. His distribution was wayward, the pressure in his face didn’t help, and turnovers were plentiful right until the end when a fumble in the end zone sealed a deserved win for the New England Patriots.
Head coach Matt Rhule knows Walker well from their time together at Temple. It will be tough for him to part ways with the quarterback, but he needs to start treating the Panthers like an NFL business rather than a college program in pursuit of progression.
Baker Mayfield will start and Sam Darnold will probably be the backup. If Corral has to go to the injured/reserve list with a foot injury, then Carolina would be wise to bring through just two signal-callers and let Walker go.
Another team could pick Walker up and he might be a solid addition to the Panthers’ practice squad if he clears waivers. However, his slim hopes of making the team are probably gone and Carolina must address this situation accordingly.
