4 quarterback prospects the Carolina Panthers should monitor in 2022
Carolina Panthers should monitor Anthony Richardson
It seems as though in almost every draft cycle, there is one quarterback that has amazing tools to be one of the most unique and mobile quarterbacks in the NFL. We’ve seen it with Justin Fields, Trey Lance, Lamar Jackson, Kyler Murray, and Malik Willis all within the last four years.
The 2023 NFL Draft may present us with another unique talent.
Introducing Anthony Richardson. Based on his athleticism and tools alone, the Florida stud is a rare quarterback. At an estimated 6-foot-4 and 236 pounds, he is arguably the most gifted quarterback in the entire country.
It is freakish how well Richardson moves for his size. He has shown the ability to get to the boundary, break angles, and outrun opposing defenses with his jaw-dropping speed and overall athleticism.
Not only that, Richardson is a bulldozer of a runner who is not afraid to put his shoulder down and run over defenders. Something the Carolina Panthers enjoyed success with during the 2010s when Cam Newton was at the peak of his powers.
The former four-star recruit also has an absurdly good arm that he uses to put the ball anywhere on the field. Richardson has flashed the ability to put the ball in the bread basket where only the receiver can catch it and into tight windows.
Despite all of the incredible flashes, Richardson is a very raw quarterback. He has only attempted 66 passes in his entire career as Emory Jones, who transferred to Arizona State, started for most of the year.
Richardson needs plenty of work when it comes to his mechanics, working both pre-snap and post-snap reads and better awareness in the pocket. Some consider the prospect ss the closest thing to Newton we’ve seen from an overall talent perspective.
If Richardson shows plenty of improvement in his first full season as a starter, he may end up being Panthers fans’ favorite quarterback prospect during the 2023 draft assessment process.
