What changes must the Carolina Panthers coaching staff make during their Week 2 contest at the New York Giants?

The Carolina Panthers coaching staff needs to do some self-evaluation after Week 1. Matt Rhule is already on the hot seat, so extending the team’s losing streak to eight against the Cleveland Browns wasn’t the best way to alleviate pressure.

This is simply unacceptable from a revamped coaching staff. Despite the arrival of experienced figures this offseason. things looked relatively the same as last year, even if it’s just one game.

Week 1’s loss is unexcusable with a backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett and the Browns missing stud right tackle Jack Conklin. The Panthers still couldn’t find a way to get it done in the final minute of the game, which has been a movie we’ve seen way too many times under Rhule.

The defense came in unprepared for the obvious rushing attack of the Browns. Carolina’s offense was very flat and offered little in the way of urgency until the fourth quarter when Baker Mayfield finally got going.

With that being said, here are three changes the Panthers coaching staff must make ahead of their Week 2 game at the New York Giants.

Carolina Panthers must establish the run

Giving your best offensive weapon three carries in the first half just isn’t going to cut it. Although there is a need for the Carolina Panthers to be cautious with Christian McCaffrey, they must find a way to establish the run in Week 2 against a New York Giants team coming into the contest on a major high following their impressive win at the Tennessee Titans.

McCaffrey’s explosiveness looked right where it needed to be. The problem for offensive coordinator Ben McAdoo was putting the All-Pro in positions to thrive.

New York restricted Derrick Henry and company to just 93 rushing yards in Week 1. So the task awaiting McAdoo and McCaffrey is a steep one at MetLife Stadium.
