Carolina Panthers’ defense must create turnovers

The bad news for the Carolina Panthers defense so far in 2022 is that they have not created a turnover. The good news is that they come up against quarterback Jameis Winston in Week 3.

In Week 2, Winston was responsible for three interceptions and was sacked six times against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He also threw the ball 40 times, completing 25, so there should be plenty of opportunities to pick off the former No. 1 overall selection.

On the subject of Winston being sacked so much, it should make Carolina’s eyes light up. Brian Burns will need to have a big game as he recorded his first two sacks last week at the New York Giants.

If Burns can get to Winston early and often, there’s a good chance that he could force a fumble and potentially tip the scales in Carolina’s favor.

Some pressure on the other side of the defensive line would help out tremendously from either Yetur Gross-Matos or Marquis Haynes. Matt Ioannidis recorded his first sack in Week 2 and maybe he can build on that momentum moving forward.

Frankie Luvu was very active in Week 2. Against the Saints, he’ll look to capitalize on a solid performance being the Panthers’ highest rated player on defense according to Pro Football Focus.

Creating the defense’s first turnover of the early season will give the team a much better chance of coming out on top in Week 3.
