4 major observations from Baker Mayfield’s performance vs. Cardinals
By Dean Jones
What were some major observations from Carolina Panthers quarterback Baker Mayfield’s performance against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 4?
Baker Mayfield’s performances haven’t been up to the required standard since joining the Carolina Panthers. He is far from the only one that deserves blame for the team’s failings on offense, but the buck always stops with the quarterback when it’s all said and done.
The Oklahoma product knows that improvements are needed, and quickly. The Panthers got the win last weekend in spite of some indifferent production from the signal-caller, although he did a nice job of protecting the football, which is a solid foundation from which to build.
Mayfield had a good chance to steady his ship against the Arizona Cardinals and their struggling secondary in Week 4. Something that the quarterback was unable to achieve as the Panthers fell to yet another demoralizing defeat.
With that in mind, here are four major observations from Mayfield’s performance versus the Cardinals in Week 4.
Major Observation No. 1
Baker Mayfield was off-sync
It was another afternoon to forget for Baker Mayfield. The Carolina Panthers defense gave him a leg-up thanks to Frankie Luvu’s pick-six early on, but that was as good as it got for an organization in serious turmoil.
Mayfield got his completion percentage up to 61.11. But this came with turnovers that ended up costing Carolina in a big way and resulted in the signal-caller securing just a 7.4 QBR as a result of his efforts.
Not exactly ideal. And there appears to be thinning patience from all parties regarding Mayfield’s poor start to the campaign.
