Finding consistency at the quarterback position has been extremely difficult for the Carolina Panthers. It’s been a proverbial merry-go-round with their current options in pursuit of finding the right formula, which has led the team back to Sam Darnold after Baker Mayfield’s disappointing outing in Week 11 at the Baltimore Ravens.

Darnold’s future looked increasingly bleak when Mayfield came on board via trade from the Cleveland Browns and the Panthers traded up to select Matt Corral at No. 94 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft. But injuries and poor performances mean that the former USC star gets one final opportunity to prove his worth.

There is a quiet confidence in Darnold that wasn’t there last season. His current predicament has no doubt been a humbling experience and even though it’ll be tough versus an exceptional Denver Broncos defense, the signal-caller has nothing to lose by playing with freedom in Ben McAdoo’s scheme.

Carolina will rely on the running game once again to make things easier for Darnold. It’s also worth remembering that this is the best offensive line he’s ever worked behind in his five-year career.

The No. 3 overall selection in 2018 didn’t capitalize on a major opportunity last season. But an added sense of urgency makes Darnold going over 225 passing yards at +320 (bet $100 to win $320) a risk worth taking.
