Carolina Panthers got a tune from backup RBs

Heading into their crucial Week 14 matchup, the Carolina Panthers monitored starting D’Onta Foreman throughout the week as he battled a foot injury.

While he was active and did play a steady game – 74 rushing yards on 21 attempts – his teammates Chuba Hubbard and undrafted free agent Raheem Blackshear stepped up during the game to help their less-than-explosive teammate.

Throughout the game, it was clear that Foreman’s burst was not there whatsoever due to his nagging foot injury. Even so, he continued to run with power and gain critical yardage.

Late in the game with a three-point lead, the Panthers needed their other running backs to step up and relieve the pressure of starting quarterback Sam Darnold. Hubbard and Blackshear did just that, chewing off five minutes and 26 seconds off the clock en route to putting Carolina up 27-17.

Another four-plus minute drive and a late field goal put Seattle away for good.

Both players showed off their unique skill sets. Hubbard displayed his strength as a north and south runner who can gain speed in a hurry when he has space in the open field. Blackshear offers good receiving skills that complement the offense, displaying quick feet and vision to gain extra yards.

Hubbard has endured plenty of criticism this season. Today is not that day as he stepped up for Carolina in their big victory. No. 30 has a chance to be the No. 2 running back next season and will continue to show more growth as the season nears its end.
