Matt Corral’s future with the Carolina Panthers

Will Matt Corral still be on the team next year? – Steven

This is a question and hot topic among the fanbase that will continue to be debated and discussed throughout the offseason as the Carolina Panthers prepare for the next phase of their post-Matt Rhule era.

This past offseason, the Panthers traded up into the third round of the NFL Draft to select quarterback Matt Corral, a talented player who faced a steep transition to the professional level. With four quarterbacks on the roster, the Ole Miss product faced an uphill battle for snaps and reps throughout the preparation period.

Some of that fault can be pointed at Rhule for not allowing him to work with the first and second-team offense. Unfortunately, Corral suffered a Lisfranc foot injury during the second preseason game and was lost for the year.

With plenty of fans and members of the media looking ahead at the potential quarterback prospects for the 2023 draft, others have continued to push for Corral as the potential starter next season. However, the chances of that seem slim.

Corral still faces stern challenges in terms of his transition in the NFL, a potential new offensive coordinator, and the lack of preseason tape to make Scott Fitterer and the new head coach comfortable with playing him next season. Yet, I don’t think his place on the team is in jeopardy.

It’s truly an unfortunate situation for the young quarterback. It’s likely he’ll be competing in training camp with a rookie and veteran signal-caller. I do believe Corral could be the team’s backup for the remainder of his contract.
