What are some factors that Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper cannot ignore when it comes to Steve Wilks and his immaculate impact?

When Steve Wilks earned the interim head coach position for the Carolina Panthers, the team’s record sat at 1-4 after losing games to some teams they should have beaten. Something that played a significant role in Matt Rhule being fired, which was a long time coming.

Since Wilks has taken over, Carolina has a 4-4 record ahead of their Week 15 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. They are also playing some tough, inspiring football.

The Panthers’ record stands at 5-8 overall with four games remaining in the regular season. And recent reports in the national media indicate Wilks is in with an outstanding chance of becoming head coach beyond the current campaign.

Wilks will guide Carolina to the postseason if they win their remaining games, and a wildcard spot is not out of reach either. With that in mind, here are three factors that team owner David Tepper cannot ignore when deciding which avenue to go down next.

Steve Wilks has natural leadership skills

Steve Wilks is authentic and tells it like it is. By adopting this method, coaches are more likely to have their players buy into what they’re selling.

Wilks is selling winning football and that’s what the Carolina Panthers have done since his emergence as interim head coach. Since his return as the defensive passing game coordinator/secondary coach, this area performed much better and his leadership skills have made a successful transition to the top job.

The former Arizona Cardinals head coach is widely respected around the NFL and it was a no-brainer to bring him back. Something that might see him become the permanent man at the helm if things continue trending in the right direction.
