Which former Carolina Panthers players could potentially make a return to the franchise in time for the 2023 campaign?

The Carolina Panthers are in the final stages of molding an exceptional coaching staff under Frank Reich. Based on their moves so far, it’s not hard to see why he separated himself from Steve Wilks and other candidates throughout the interview process.

Reich’s all-star cast must be matched by improvements across the roster. The Panthers don’t have much money to spend right now, but that could all change once contract restructures and other sacrifices come to light before free agency.

There’s been a nostalgic feel to Carolina’s approach this offseason. Reich has come full circle after playing quarterback during the Panthers’ inaugural campaign and the team’s first head coach is also back on the staff after Dom Capers agreed to become a senior defensive assistant.

Could this mean some former players are also targeted? If so, here are four that should come under consideration.

Carolina Panthers could target Greg Van Roten

The offensive line made tremendous strides in 2022. But with serious injuries to Brady Christensen and Austin Corbett late in the campaign, the Carolina Panthers need to solidify depth across the board in case their rehabilitation takes longer than expected.

Going down the draft route might be cheaper. Someone like Greg Van Roten should also come under the microscope if the Buffalo Bills let him walk in free agency.

Van Roten spent three seasons in Carolina and performed well on a rotational basis for the Bills last time around. Something that could provide a short-term solution capable of stepping in at a moment’s notice.
