The Carolina Panthers have their backs against the wall this weekend. And we're about to find out what head coach Dave Canales' squad is truly made of in Sunday Night Football against the Detroit Lions.

Canales is trying to navigate a plethora of injuries. Most involve key personnel, and with the Panthers sitting at 1-2, their margin for error is long gone.

Fortunately, this is the Panthers' final game before their bye week. This comes at a good time, but they still have one game left to navigate, and Carolina cannot afford to dig a hole with a prime-time audience watching.

With that in mind, here are five Panthers on the hot seat entering Week 4 at Bank of America Stadium.

Carolina Panthers who are firmly on the hot seat entering Week 4 against the Detroit Lions

Ejiro Evero, DC

The Panthers are dealing with a plethora of injuries on defense. They've lost both Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson Sr. for the foreseeable future, and defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero must find solutions.

Evero is starting to turn things around defensively. It's not perfect right now, and it could get even worse without Horn and Jackson. The defensive coordinator will have to scheme around these problems, so fans are about to find out just how good a coach he is.

And he better be good, because the Lions offense can put up points quickly.

Tetairoa McMillan, WR

The Cleveland Browns shut down Tetairoa McMillan in Week 3. They took their medicine elsewhere, but the 2025 first-round pick was not going to beat them. This might be a blueprint others follow, so the wide receiver needs to adjust accordingly when the Lions come to town.

McMillan is the leading man, and that might be even more true if Jalen Coker misses the contest. The Arizona product has to make a significant difference in this one, and there is a good chance he can do just that against a vulnerable Detroit secondary.

Rasheed Walker, OT

Carolina is dealing with some issues on the offensive line right now. They won't have Damien Lewis, their only consistent performer this season, after the left guard suffered an elbow injury. Now is the time to step up, and all eyes will be on left tackle Rasheed Walker.

The free-agent signing has disappointed so far this season. Walker needs more, and a stern test of his credentials awaits in prime time against stud defensive end Aidan Hutchinson.

If Walker cannot keep the blindside free of pressure, the Panthers will have a big problem on their hands.

Chau Smith-Wade, CB

As previously mentioned, the Panthers won't have Jackson and Horn available until further notice. General manager Dan Morgan hasn't done anything to fill the void yet, trusting those around to come through when the stakes are highest.

Whether they can or not is another matter. The Lions won't be doing them any favors, and Chau Smiith-Wade is under more pressure than most.

Smith-Wade will likely operate in the nickel. That means either Amon-Ra St. Brown or tight end Sam LaPorta will be in his crosshairs, which is a daunting proposition for almost anyone.

Patrick Jones II, OLB

After returning to the lineup in Week 3, more will be expected of Patrick Jones II in this one. The Panthers face running back Jahmyr Gibbs, who's playing as well as anyone in the league. And unless Carolina can set clean edges, the former Alabama standout will run all over this group.

Jones is arguably Carolina's best run defender at outside linebacker. He should be healthy enough to log prominent reps, and he has to make an impact to prevent Gibbs from going off-tackle whenever the dual-threat is in his vicinity.
