Bryce Young's timing
Bryce Young isn't classed as an elite playmaker by any stretch of the imagination — not yet, anyway. But when the quarterback has time and is in control, he is extremely effective.
This was evident throughout his time on the field in Atlanta. Whether it was on deep balls or checkdowns, everything was in sync. Some of his throws were nothing short of jaw-dropping, and he almost always gave his pass-catchers chances to make plays.
And thanks to the improved defense to back him up, Young was in cruise control from a long way out.
Not much rattles Young these days. His resolve has improved dramatically, and his composure is a real asset at football's most important position. His measured approach is reassuring, and it comes with improved consistency and sound awareness in critical moments.
This is precisely what the Panthers wanted from Young to start the season.
General manager Dan Morgan may have picked up his fifth-year option this offseason, but the Panthers also wanted Young to earn a lucrative long-term commitment. He's taken on the challenge and is responding well, and the timing with his receivers is a small but important part of his early-season surge.
Another outstanding performance from Bryce Young
Bryce Young is stacking good performances. The quarterback has hit the ground running this season, and the Falcons have had no answer for his surgical precision and growing stature.
But for the first time this season, everything else around Young fell into place.
The defense took last weekend's horrendous showing personally and put together a dominant outing, led by a phenomenal performance from second-team All-Pro linebacker Devin Lloyd. Special teams was on point, and Young's playmakers delivered when it mattered most.
The Panthers delivered a complete performance. Young led the way, and a blowout win over one of their fierce division rivals was the best possible way to make a statement.
Young even got the chance to sit out the final few minutes with the game out of sight. That is how impressive both he and the Panthers were in Atlanta.
These are all massive positives. Young is proving his worth as a capable presence under center. His supporting cast is being elevated by his play, and if this is a sign of things to come, Carolina is going to be a tough out from here on.
It may have taken longer than expected, but the Panthers' faith in Young is being rewarded. If you're not paying attention to his growth, you should be.
Because the Panthers might have a legitimate franchise quarterback.
