After addressing some critical defensive needs, in addition to finding a short-term stopgap for injured left tackle Ikem Ekwonu, during free agency, attention may now turn to the weapons around quarterback Bryce Young. While that's not guaranteed, the Panthers are covering all their bases.

According to ESPN draft analyst Jordan Reid, the Panthers will be hosting wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. on a visit. This report came just a few short hours after another supreme showcase of his credentials at the Indiana pro day, which inevitably drew a large contingent of NFL scouts and other front-office personnel.
Cooper is an outstanding prospect. He played a significant role in the Hoosiers' dominant run to the college football national championship, and he looks like a Day 1 starter in this slot for whatever team drafts him. The Panthers have Jalen Coker and Tetairoa McMillan on the boundary, so this looks like an outstanding fit for what Carolina is building.
The Panthers are not in the business of sentiment. Any new arrivals to the wideout room are not going to look favorably on Legette's chances of carving out a bigger role for himself next season. And make no mistake; more competition is arriving in some capacity.
Legette's first two seasons in Carolina were underwhelming at best. The Panthers saw enough in the athletic pass-catcher to trade up and take him No. 32 overall in 2024. He's not come close to meeting expectations yet, and this team is too far along to wait around on the off-chance that everything comes together.
The former South Carolina standout is trying to ignore the outside noise, but Legette should be aware that any further struggles could mean a more precarious future. McMillan and Coker are locked into their roles. If Cooper or another receiver is taken early in the draft process, that instantly pushes him lower down the pecking order.
There are high stakes attached for Legette. Momentum is not on his side, so it's going to take an epic turnaround to epic perceptions. Otherwise, the Panthers may look to extract something in return via trade.
They're not going to give up on Legette without giving him a fair chance over the summer. But the size of the task awaiting him cannot be overstated.
