Social media is engaging people today in ways that never seemed possible. One of the latest social media partnerships brings together a popular professional football franchise and one of the country’s leading independent real estate organizations.

The Carolina Panthers and Allen Tate Company, the Carolinas’ leading real estate company, are partnering to present Panthers Purrsuit, a unique one-day citywide contest that leverages the latest advances in social media and location-based mobile technologies. The event will be held on Saturday, October 23, beginning at noon.

Fans compete as two-person teams in a citywide quest to visit local destinations, complete social media challenges, and connect with other fans – all while competing for Panthers Purrsuit points and prizes.

A typical social media challenge might involve uploading a video, telling Twitter friends about an upcoming promotion, or sharing photos on Facebook of team members volunteering with a local charity.

“Panthers Purrsuit showcases how social media can bring people together, forge new connections, build community, and support area businesses and organizations,” said Panthers spokesperson Mike Mahoney. “This is a first-of-its-kind use of social media.”

Fans who actively participate in social media through blogging, sharing photos, and posting status updates will uncover new ways to participate in the game and earn points. But novices will also enjoying playing and learning more about social media. And the event will introduce many participants to geo-location mobile applications like Foursquare and Gowalla.

“We saw this event as an innovative opportunity to introduce home buyers and sellers to Allen Tate Realtors,” said Pat Riley, president of Allen Tate Company, the title sponsor. “It’s a creative vehicle to engage consumers, highlight the vibrant Charlotte community and show what it means to be at home in the Carolinas.”

“This is the year of location-based social networking,” said Scott Hepburn, founder of Charlotte-based Media Emerging, who helped create the event. “Panthers Purrsuit is about consumers connecting through social media and further developing those relationships through meaningful “real life” experiences.”
