Panther fans unite to save Cam Newton

As I am sure most of you know the Panther’s second year quarterback Cam Newton was the Panther’s representative to be on the cover of the NFL video game Madden 2013. Last year, Newton had one of the best rookie campaigns in the history of the NFL, breaking numerous rookie quarterback records, en route to leading the Panthers to a 6-10 record.

But now the voting, which is done much like the NCAA Basketball Tournament matching up a player versus a player in a single elimination tournament, is into the final round and you guessed it Cam Newton is in the championship going up against Detroit Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson.

Cam has pretty much walked through the tournament as easy as Kentucky did in the actual 2012 NCAA Tournament. He first beat LeGarrett Blount of Tampa Bay and Antonio Gates of the San Diego Chargers easily, getting 87% of the votes in both matchups. Newton then easily dispatched Cardinal’s wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald in the third round, getting 70% of the votes. Finally in the semifinals, he squeaked past middle linebacker Patrick Willis to advance to the championship matchup, managing to get 53% of the votes.

Johnson’s road hasn’t been as easy, as the receiver known as Megatron, beat Dwayne Bowe and Arian Foster in the first two rounds but from their pulled two big upsets by beating tight end phenom Rob Grownkowski and quarterback Aaron Rodgers on his way to the championship. Johnson has been building some momentum as the contest has gone on and hopefully that will continue.

Now if you play Madden or follow the NFL closely I am sure that you know about the so called Madden Curse. Pretty much whoever has graced the Madden cover for the upcoming football season usually has something terrible go wrong with them, whether it be an injury or just a terrible season.

Just look at last season with Clevland Browns running back Peyton Hillis. The season before he rushed for 1,117 yards and 11 touchdowns, earning him the right to grace the cover of Madden 2012. Then during last season, he suffered numerous injuries, playing in only 10 games and finishing with just over 500 rushing yards and just three touchdowns.

Don’t believe me, check out this site and it will give you more than enough examples why Panther fans need to vote for Calvin Johnson to beat Cam Newton.

So Panthers fans young and old, do your team a favor and vote Calvin Johnson to grace the cover of Madden 2013. This season will already be dangerous enough for the second year quarterback, lets do him a favor and keep the curse off of him.
