Round 2, Pick 40

Demarcus Walker, DE-Florida State

The Panthers are not getting any younger at the defensive end position with Charles Johnson, Julius Peppers and Mario Addison being older veterans. Some youth is needed. This is why Demarcus Walker will be a great pick, because he is a talented young player who can develop behind the veterans, having the ability to reach opposing quarterbacks in multiple ways.

Walker is a good edge rusher and has the power compete on the inside as well. He was the best defensive lineman on a very talented Florida State defensive front. His numbers prove he is capable of rushing the passer and the Panthers cannot pass on such a talent in the second round. Adding Walker to the defensive end rotation is a great move that will scare offensive coordinators around the league.

2016 Stats:

Tackles: 45

Tackles For A Loss: 19.5

Sacks: 16.0

Forced Fumbles: 3

Interceptions: 0

NFL Comparison:

Mario Edwards

Other Scenarios:

Takkarist McKinley Is Still Available Scenario- McKinley is a better player than Walker in addition to McKinley being a Panthers fan according to recent videos made about him. However, it is unlikely he remains available at pick No. 40. Probability of 20-percent.

Double Dip On Offense Scenario- Tight end David Njoku falls to pick No. 40 and the Panthers decide they cannot pass up on the opportunity to take him. This would also only happen if he fell and the Panthers had not already selected O.J. Howard. Probability of 40-percent.
