The Carolina Panthers have reportedly narrowed the list of potential owners down to just three…

Carolina Panthers owner Jerry Richardson announced his intention to sell the franchise in late December following allegations of workplace misconduct. The NFL launched an investigation of their own and although findings have yet to be revealed, the organization is moving forward and will operate under new ownership in 2018, if everything goes according to plan.

The transition of power for businesses worth billions of dollars can take some time but the NFL hopes to have a potential candidate in place by their spring meetings. Taking place in Atlanta from May 21-23, the approval of a new owner requires a three-fourths vote from current league leadership.

Although some reports have narrowed the field down to only two potential candidates, David Tepper insists he is still involved in the bidding process. As the price creeps upwards of $2.5 billion, many early entrants into the pool of applicants have been weeded out.

If Tepper is in fact still in the race, he joins Ben Navarro and Alan Kestenbaum as the three front-runners currently expected to take over ownership of the Panthers. None have previous ties to the organization other than Tepper being a minority owner in the Pittsburgh Steelers, which he would relinquish with Panthers ownership and Navarro being based out of Charleston, South Carolina.

As the bidding process continues, expect an accepted bid to arise within the next month. This would give current NFL owners an opportunity to vet the candidate and then vote in late May on the approval of ownership.
