Brock Osweiler

Starter experience, check. Affordable contract, maybe. Brock Osweiler burst into the spotlight only to pull back away after his hot start cooled significantly. The good news is he’s not worth anything near what he was at one point and he does have experience as the starting quarterback.

Filling in for one season, Osweiler would have an opportunity to rejuvenate his career and allow teams in search of a quarterback later, the chance to see him as a starter for a full season. Carolina isn’t going to find another quarterback who is as mobile as Newton and could be better off with a pocket passer.

If the Panthers have to find a fill-in, Turner will be forced to tweak the offense – regardless of who is signed.

While no one hopes Newton is limited during his recovery and unable to play next season, a quick analysis of the available free agents makes this situation even more dire. The Panthers best option may be deciding if Heinicke or Allen is a potential long-term replacement and rolling with the young gun for a year.

Either way, expect Newton’s health and recovery to dominate the headlines this offseason.
