Playing against SEC competition, Florida defensive end Jachai Polite may find himself better suited as a 3-4 outside linebacker in the league. Given the Panthers current roster situation and unwillingness to re-sign Davis, finding someone with his capabilities is warranted.

Hoping to change fronts more in 2019, it wouldn’t be out of the question for Hurney to add two or more defensive players who can help out, especially for depth. However, with concerns elsewhere – offensive line, safety – getting two high end players to insert into the defensive front may not be possible.

Picking Polite would allow Hurney to add an immediate starter and review what prospects remain when on the clock in later rounds to see which position is needed the most. Currently viewed as a top-25 pick, Carolina is in good position to make him the newest Panthers defender.
