Carolina Panthers NFL Draft targets from Alabama Pro Day
Deionte Thompson, S
6-foot-1, 195 pounds
Another position that figures to be high on the priority list is safety. After releasing Mike Adams, Carolina has an opening opposite Eric Reid in their defensive backfield and unlike other vacancies, have made no moves to address it during free agency.

Last year, Da’Norris Searcy was tabbed to start alongside Adams prior to landing on the Injured Reserve list after sustaining multiple concussions. He figures to be back in the mix, as well as Rashaan Gaulden who’s entering his sophomore season after appearing in 15 games last season.
Another option would be to add a safety during the NFL Draft and Deionte Thompson is drawing a lot of interest across the league. Although he may not be the highest rated safety in the class and couldn’t compete at the combine due to injury, he is still projected as a first-round selection.
Thompson drew a lot of attention during the pro day workout following his wrist surgery but no long-term effects are expected and he should remain a high draft pick next month. His ball skills and traits make him an intriguing prospect for the NFL and someone Hurney potentially has his eye on for the draft.
