219

219 is the amount of carries Christian McCaffrey had last season. I would expect that number to go down, but his production out of the backfield should still be felt via receptions.

There is no doubt that he was a workhorse last year. He had five games of at least 15 rushing attempts, and two games of at least 20 rushing attempts. His performance in week three against Cincinnati was particularly notable and spoke to how he can get the job done without fatiguing. He carried the ball 28 times for 184 yards, averaging 6.57 yards per carry. He did a little bit less receiving, catching two passes for 10 yards. However, his work on the ground was more than enough of a contribution.

He had 117 rushing attempts in 2017, and I would expect that number to be more of a possibility than 219. That’s not a reflection on his skills either. This all ties into the fact that the Carolina Panthers have more weapons to choose from. That will take some of the workload off McCaffrey, and allow him to be fresher for the later parts of the game. Chances are, that’s when the team will need him most.
