Wide receiver’s D.J. Moore and Curtis Samuel are extremely talented and capable enough to be No. 1 receivers in the NFL. Still, they have yet to prove that they can be consistent pass-catchers that produce week in and week out.
Part of the issue is that Newton has yet to target either receiver on any deep or intimidate routes. If either receiver is going to break a big pass play it will likely have to be on yards after the catch.
One of these two young receivers is going to have to establish themselves as a true No. 1 at some point during the season if the Panthers are going to return to the type of offense that got them to the Super Bowl in 2015.
What better time than this week against a shaky Buccaneers defense?
