DE Brian Burns

Some fans are surprised by the immediate splash production from first-round pick Brian Burns out of Florida State, but they shouldn’t be. Burns was an absolute lightning bolt during his last season in Tallahassee and showed the potential to be an NFL superstar. Teams were scared away by his size, but to this point the rookie has spat in the face of that narrative.

If you followed any of my draft coverage this season, you know I’ve been high on Burns since early March, even going as far as comparing him to Von Miller with his speed and agility.

Burns hasn’t just been one of the best defensive rookies in the league, he’s been one of the most disruptive defensive players period. Mario Addison is having a career season (second in the league with 6.5 sacks), no coincidence here, as these two have complemented each other as well as any defensive end combination in the league. Addison gets the major assist here for Burns first career scoop and score.

Burns is currently on pace for 11 sacks in his first year. For reference, J.J. Watt had 5.5 sacks in his rookie year. This kid is special, and I look forward to watching him continue to ball out.
