Trailing the New Orleans Saints in divisional play by one game, the Panthers will typically always benefit from a loss by the Saints. This week is no different and gives fans an opportunity to evaluate New Orleans as they prepare for two divisional clashes later in the year.
While quarterback Drew Brees has been sidelined, the Saints have also gone 4-0 and with their bye not scheduled until Week 9, any return could be delayed until that time.
Either way, Brees is expected to be back in action by the time Carolina visits in Week 12, so the more losses New Orleans is handed prior the better.
The early bye week comes at a good time in terms of current injuries but also means the Panthers now face 10 straight to conclude regular season play.
